<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=H%20Capital">H Capital</a>, the China-focused venture capital firm founded by former Tiger Global partner Chen Xiaohong, is looking out to raise $700 million for its fifth fund, according to its SEC filing.
<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=H%20Capital V">H Capital V</a> is $200-million higher than the capital that the firm targeted for its fourth fund last year and will continue to invest in technology businesses. It is not clear if the firm had reached the target for its fourth fund.
H Capital did not specify the minimum amount of investment it will accept from outside investors for its fifth fund.
Founded in 2002, H Capital has so far made 14 investments, six of which as lead investor. Its most recent investment was on March 1, 2018, when it backed the $818-million funding round in <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Chehaoduo">Chehaoduo</a>, a Beijing-based online car trading platform.
H Capital&#8217;s portfolio also includes <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Zuoyebang">Zuoyebang</a>, <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=E-Life%20Financial Services">E-Life Financial Services</a>, Consensus, Funye, 17zuoye, iKongJian, and <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Meitu">Meitu</a>.
H Capital raised its third venture capital fund of $500 million in August 2015, soon after closing its $300 million second fund that year.
A number of venture capital firms focused on China had recently launched or closed new funds that target China&#8217;s burgeoning startup space. Among them is <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Morningside%20Venture Capital">Morningside Venture Capital</a>, an early-stage investor, which raised a combined funding of $593 million.
Morningside Venture Capital is one of China’s earliest early-stage venture investors with around $ 1.7 billion under management including four USD funds and one RMB fund.
<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=36kr">36kr</a>, a Chinese tech media and entrepreneur service firm, also launched a Rmb1-billion ($144 million) fund that invests in businesses in the areas of news consumption, enterprise services, and smart manufacturing.
Most recently, Chinese VC firm <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Insight%20Capital">Insight Capital</a> announced the close of its third investment fund at Rmb500 million ($72 million).
Insight Capital said it will continue to invest in early-stage medical devices and innovative healthcare. The third fund will also provide follow-on funding to portfolio companies invested through previous funds.
