Chinese logistics major <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=SF%20Holdings">SF Holding</a>, known as the country&#8217;s Fedex, has entered into an agreement to acquire a 25 per cent stake in <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=KOSPA%20Limited">KOSPA Limited</a>, a Myanmar-based third-party logistics firm, for $4 million.
SF Holding will purchase newly issued shares in KOSPA, a joint venture between Myanmar’s <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Yoma%20Strategic Holdings Ltd">Yoma Strategic Holdings Ltd</a> and Japan’s <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Kokubu%20Group">Kokubu Group</a>. The Chinese firm will acquire the 25 per cent stake from Yoma.
Kokubu currently holds a 50 per cent interest in the joint venture. Yoma said it will acquire from Kokubu a certain number of shares for $2 million such that it will retain its 50 per cent interest in the logistics firm after the investment from SF Holding.
KOSPA provides end-to-end logistics solutions for agricultural, pharmaceutical, FMCG, and other clients throughout Myanmar.
In a statement, Yoma said the new investment will be used to fund the expansion of KOSPA&#8217;s current fleet and its warehouse capacity. The company added that the partnership will target opportunities for cross-border transit created by improving China-Myanmar economic relations through the Belt and Road initiative
“Logistics has the potential to become a major growth sector of the Myanmar economy and this partnership strategically positions KOSPA to capture opportunities presented by a growing appetite for e-commerce in the country,” said Yoma Strategic CEO Melvyn Pun.
SF Holding, the parent company of SF Express, is often called China’s answer to UPS rival FedEx, and is the dominant package delivery company within China. It also delivers to more than a dozen countries, including the United States and Japan.
