In its third investment in the robotics area within a month, Tencent Holdings has led series A in Yunji Technology while TuSimple has completed a $55-million series C round.
<h3>Tencent, HNA Capital lead series A in Yunji</h3>
<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Tencent+Holdings">Tencent Holdings</a> and <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=HNA+Capital">HNA Capital</a> lead tens of millions of US dollars of series A round in Bejing-based service robot developer <a class="tinymce-colortext" style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Yunji+Technology+">Yunji Technology </a>with participation from iFlytek and LanTing Capital, according to local media reports.
Founded in 2014, Yunji Technology is engaged in the research and development of service robots to fill demand in businesses and the government’s agencies.
According to the company’s website, its intelligent service robots, named Run, have been used in luxury hotels such as Marriott, Intercontinental, Starwood and Hilton as well as some airlines.
In the same month, Tencent announced it was a lead investor in fighting robot develop Ganker’s series A, worth tens of millions of RMB (a few millions US dollars), and a $400-million series B round in Ubtech Robotics.
The demand for service robots is on an upward trend in response to the rise of domestic labor costs particularly big cities like Shanghai and Beijing. China’s service robot market in 2016 is reported to reach RMB7.29 billion, up 44.6 per cent from the previous year.
<h3>TuSimple secures $55m series C</h3>
Beijing-based autonomous truck driving developer <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=TuSimple">TuSimple</a> has raised $55 million in series C round led by Fuhe Capital.
Other investors in this round also include Sina Corp, the Chinese check giant behind Weibo, and Zhiping Capital, CMN reported.
Formed in 2015, TuSimple develops technology for autonomous long-distance freight delivery. It plans to spend the latest funding on research and development and road testing, according to local media’s reports.
In August, it raised more than $20 million in series B round led by Sina. The US-based chip manufacturer <a class="tinymce-colortext" style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Nvidia+Corp">Nvidia Corp</a> also joined the round.
Currently, TuSimple has over 100 employees in two R&amp;D centers, in Beijing and San Diego.
