China&#8217;s<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.hnagroup.com/en/" target="_blank"> HNA Group</a> on Tuesday said it would buy a 23.7 percent stake in <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.voeazul.com.br/en/home">Azul Brazilian Airlines</a> for $450 million in its first foray into Latin America.
HNA Group will become the largest shareholder in Azul, Brazil&#8217;s third largest airline, and aims to benefit from substantial passenger traffic between China and Brazil.
HNA Group will also win the right to a seat on the board of Azul, which is controlled by JebBlue Airways Corp founder David Neeleman.
Neeleman said in a statement that the partnership would enable Azul to access Asian markets through interline and codeshare agreements.
