Sydney-based online tutoring startup Cluey Learning has raised A$20 million ($14 million) in a Series A round from technology investor Allectus Capital and Thorney Investment Group, according to an announcement.
Founded in 2018, Cluey Learning matches students with private tutors who conduct sessions on math, English and chemistry using an online platform. It caters to children aged 3 to 12 years.
The startup is the brainchild of venture capitalist Mark Rohald, a 30-year veteran of education and training in the UK, South Africa, Canada and Australia. With the latest funding, it has now raised A$31 million ($21.7 million) in total.
&#8220;The funding will go towards further developing our learning platform and analytics capabilities so that we can better understand the ways in which children learn, and how we can personalise the process for each student. We will continue to expand our curriculum to provide richer, more interactive, and more exciting lesson content. We are also working with universities to access greater opportunities for educational research,&#8221; said Rohald, who is Cluey Learning&#8217;s CEO.
Rohald is also a partner at Quartet Ventures, the VC firm behind business brands such as Barbeques Galore, Oporto, and Rebel.
Allectus Capital Limited is an investment company with a value-focused technology portfolio of listed and unlisted companies. Allectus was formed to invest in, and partner with, potentially disruptive businesses in the technology sector.
Allectus oversees around $300 million in technology investments, principally in the Asia Pacific and the United Kingdom. It is owned by ICM and UIL Limited.
Thorney Investment Group Australia is a firm specializing in investments in emerging companies. The firm seeks to invest in private companies and property. It also invests in public equity markets.
