Philippine-based Bitcoin exchange <a href="http://coins.ph">Coins.ph</a> is planning to launch an iOS version of its mobile wallet app, designed specifically for Filipinos.
The iOS version (just like the recently launched Android version) will allow users to shop online, and send cash anywhere in the Philippines.
Christine Aguilar from the Coins.ph marketing team said the Bitcoin wallets from other countries might not work as well for Filipinos, as users will not be able to buy Bitcoins in the US dollar currency, or they may not have access to banks.
The <a href="http://coins.ph/">coins.ph</a> wallet, Aguilar explained, would provide specific functions such as: buying a prepaid load and directly loading one&#8217;s phone, sending money to Philippine bank accounts or money remittance centers and the buying/selling of digital currency Bitcoin in the Philippine currency -Peso.
The Coins.ph wallet will be accessible on the company&#8217;s website, she added. Though the Bitcoin exchange is not planning to launch a Windows and Blackberry versions of the app, they are making sure that their website can accommodate the required amount of mobile traffic via the mobile browser, she said.
Coins.ph continues to add minor updates to its Android app version and claims the app is getting good reviews and plenty of organic downloads.
By using digital currency and mobile phones, Coins.ph aims to bridge the gap between the banks and the unbanked population. The company believes that the mobile and digital currency would increase accessibility and reduce the cost of driving financial services to the end customers.
The company said over half of the population in South East Asia is not served by traditional banks and has no choice but to transact in cash, leaving them exposed to high remittance fees, high interest loans; and so they are unable to save, invest, or build credit. Coins.ph&#8217;s main goal is to change the landscape of financial inclusion in the SEA region.
