Online learning startup Coursera has raised $103 million in a Series E funding round from several investors led by ASX-listed SEEK Group.
Australia’s sovereign wealth Future Fund and global venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates (NEA) also participated in the funding round. According to a TechCrunch <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2019/04/25/online-learning-startup-coursera-picks-up-103m-now-valued-at-1b/">report</a>, the latest funding values Coursera at over $1 billion.
The California-based startup had previously raised $64 million in Series D funding in June 2017.
Coursera chief executive Jeff Maggioncalda said in a statement that the funding will give the company resources and flexibility to expand globally, and help it accelerate the development of its platform.
Coursera, which counts India as its second largest market after the United States, is one of the world’s largest online learning platforms for higher education. It has partnered with 190 universities and several educators across industries.
The startup claims to have grown its user base to 40 million globally. It offers 3,200 courses and 310 specializations, including in data science, computer science, and public health.
Its new investor SEEK operates online employment and education businesses and is an active investor. &#8220;This investment reflects our commitment to online education, which is enabling the up-skilling and re-skilling of people and is aligned to our purpose of helping people live fulfilling working lives,&#8221; said SEEK co-founder and CEO Andrew Bassat in a statement.

The round was led by ASX-listed SEEK Group and joined by Future Fund and global venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates (NEA).
