Kuala Lumpur-based private equity firm <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/Creador/">Creador</a> is looking to make the first close of its fourth fund Creador IV at $450 million in early July.
The vehicle, which was launched with a target of raising $500 million in February this year, will make investments in South and Southeast Asia. The PE firm hopes to make a final close for the fund before the end of this year, Creador founder and CEO Brahmal Vasudevan told DEALSTREETASIA in an email response.

&#8220;We have in the recent past invested about 35 per cent of capital in Malaysia. We expect a final close (for fourth fund) before year-end. Our core markets are India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines,&#8221; Vasudevan said.
The fourth fund is the biggest vehicle ever raised by Creador with its predecessor, the third fund Creador III, having raised $415 million last year. The third fund is currently over 85 per cent deployed.
The firm&#8217;s first fund mopped up $130 million in 2013. followed by a $331-million second fund, with commitments from the likes of Hamilton Lane, Siguler Guff, and Quilvest, as well as a Malaysian pension fund and a US endowment.
With the latest fund, in fact, Creador is targeting to invest up to <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/creador-vietnam-investment-brahmal-92713/">20 per cent of Fund IV </a>in Vietnam over the next three years. Having opened an office in Ho Chi Minh City earlier this month, Creador is said to be confident of securing another deal in the country this year. In February this year, it made an entry into the Vietnamese market by investing $43.8 million in the country&#8217;s largest mobile device and consumer electronics retailer <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/Mobile-World/">Mobile World</a> (MWG).
Founded in 2011, the firm focuses on long-term investments in growth-oriented companies in South and Southeast Asia and has invested in 27 firms across the region. In its home market Malaysia, late last year, it invested in <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/creador-invests-13m-malaysian-bakery-chain-bake-yen-79419/">Bake With Yen Group</a> putting in $13 million to pick up an undisclosed stake. Further, in February this year, its portfolio company Malaysian retail pharmacy chain RedCap Pharmacy <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/malaysia-creador-redcap-merges-big-pharmacy-91829/">merged</a> with local pharma retailer BIG Pharmacy.
The vehicle is being raised at a time when there is a flurry of fundraising activities across Asia and Southeast Asia. Recently, <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=dymon+asia">Dymon Asia Private Equity</a> announced the final close of its second Southeast Asia fund at $450 million, just several months after its launch.
In February, Singapore-based Insignia Ventures partners closed its maiden fund at $120 million while <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/golden-gate-ventures/">Golden Gate Ventures </a>was said to be raising a $100 million third fund to continue its investment in the region&#8217;s burgeoning e-commerce market.
Bain &amp; Company&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/pe-sea-2017-bain-97672/">recent report</a> noted that Southeast Asia achieved a record in 2017 with deals worth a total of $20 billion sealed in the ASEAN region. Internet and tech companies took the lead, amounting to 39 per cent of total deals last year.
