Indian angel investor Dhianu Das has launched a new venture capital firm with a corpus of Rs 100 crore ($14 million).
The firm, christened Alfa Ventures, will invest in home-grown startups at the seed to early-stage levels. Through the fund, Das aims to work with partners to give Indian early-stage entrepreneurs a wide network of infrastructure, cross-border partnerships, and funds for scaling businesses, according to an official statement.
Das’ investment portfolio includes around 15 startups including GoMechanic, ClearDekho and Cleansecar.
&#8220;India has witnessed an entrepreneurial boom in the last 10 years. However, funding still remains a challenge for homegrown startups, as they do not have a proven history, but only a passion to excel,&#8221; said Das.
&#8220;Over the past few years, we have seen small startups create a major impact on their respective sectors. With Alfa Ventures, we aim to reach out to more such entrepreneurs and be a part of their journey,&#8221; he added.
He plans to bring in more partners in the future to expand the scale of the operations.
The new fund comes in at a time when early-stage investments in the country suffered a decline in 2018 compared to preceding years. There is, however, plenty of dry powder being accumulated for early-stage deals with a number of venture capital firms in the market to raise funds. Some of these names include Blume Ventures, India Quotient, 021 Capital.
