E-commerce giant<a href="http://www.ebay.com/" target="_blank"> eBay</a> might be acquiring more shares in <a href="http://www.metra.co.id/en/metra-group/" target="_blank">Metra Plasa</a>, a joint venture between eBay and<a href="https://www.tm.com.my/Pages/Home.aspx" target="_blank"> Telkom</a>.
The acquisition, eBay&#8217;s third, will change the ownership composition, increasing eBay stake in Metra to 49 per cent, from the earlier shareholding of 40 per cent. Telekom will reduce its stake accordingly from 60 per cent to 51 per cent.
EBay has previous acquisitions in South Korea and India.
Metra Plasa was revived in 2012, when eBay decided to save the startup from collapsing with a capital injection of $9.2 million.
It was reported that Telkom&#8217;s acting CEO Indra Utoyo said eBay may add shares to its 49 per cent holding.
&#8220;They have the right to be the majority (shareholder). There’re stages to reach it, and they want to do it fast. However, I cannot disclose more about this,&#8221; he was quoted in online media.
Utoyo added that e-commerce giant was a small contributor to Telkom’s revenue but the group foresees a gradual increase in contribution that might go up  to 10 per cent in the next two to three years.
eBay will use <a href="http://www.blanja.com/" target="_blank">Blanja</a>, an e-commerce platform managed by Telkom, as their vehicle to compete in Indonesia&#8217;s growing e-commerce market.
Blanja, which was launched just yesterday, is mainly managed by Telkom’s subsidiary, <a href="http://www.telkomsel.com/" target="_blank">Telkomsel</a>, and has one million registered items, 600 sellers, and 50,000 daily visitors.
Data from eMarketer suggests that the B2C e-commerce industry in Indonesia grew at 45.1 per cent and will maintian a above 20 per cent rate of growth for the next three years, according to an online media
