Thailand&#8217;s State Enterprise Policy Commission has approved the launch of 20-billion-baht ($ 610 million ) infrastructure fund by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).
The 20-year fund, a first of its kind (by a state enterprise), will submit its initial public offering (IPO) application to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by the year-end.
The IPO is expected to open for subscription within the first quarter of the next year, Kulit Sombatsiri, director-general of the State Enterprise Policy Office, said after meeting the State Enterprise Policy Commission or the Superboard. &#8220;It will be backed by next 20 years of income from EGAT&#8217;s North Bangkok power plant,&#8221; he added.
According to him, other state enterprises including Airports of Thailand and Expressway Authority of Thailand are going to launch similar funds in the future. &#8220;Initially, the annual yield rate is expected to be around 5%,&#8221; Kulit added.
EGAT will soon be discussing the size and the launch of infrastructure fund with the SEC.
EGAT,Thailand’s largest power producer, is a state-owned power utility under the Ministry of Energy. it is responsible for electric power generation, transmission and bulk electric energy sales, for the entire country.
The company owns and operates three thermal power plants, six combined cycle power plants, 22 hydro power plants, eight renewable energy plants, and a diesel power plant, among others, situated at 40 different sites, across Thailand. The total installed capacity of 15,010.13 MW. The company is planning to use the proceeds of this IPO to upgrade is transmission network and for setting up additional power plants.
