Indonesian solar development and asset management company Xurya has snagged a seed stage funding round from region-focused investors, East Ventures and Agaeti Venture Capital, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Sources peg the ticket size to be in the region of $1-2 million while the round is said to have closed last month. Both East Ventures and Agaeti VC did not comment on the transaction.
Xurya, a privately held solar development and asset management company in Indonesia, focuses on enabling companies to achieve their sustainability financial goals. Xurya is engaged in sourcing, developing, operating, and maintaining distributed solar projects.
Xurya targets solar owners, businesses with sustainability goals, property owners, financial investors, and local communities as potential clients for its services.
Xurya was founded by Eka Himawan and Edwin Widjonarko in 2018 to solve the slow adoption of renewable energy in developing countries.
It targets to cater to Indonesian business buildings, apartments, warehouses, factories and shophouses. Based in Jakarta, Xurya also provides remote deployment at mining sites and island resorts.
Agaeti Venture Capital is an early stage venture capital firm founded by seasoned entrepreneurs and investors with extensive industry experience in Southeast Asia. It recently closed its $10-million fund. Agaeti VC typically invests in the range of $1 million in tech startups.
Some of its recent investments include e-procurement platform Bizzy; co-work space operator Cocowork; digitally enabled roadside kiosks Warung Pintar; online dating and social networking platform Coffee Meets Bagel; wedding marketplace Bridestory; insuretech startup Fuse Nano; and,  startup generator Antler.
East Ventures is one of Indonesia’s most active venture capital firms and specializes in backing startups at a very early stage. Among its most successful investments are Tokopedia, Traveloka and Ruangguru.
Its latest publicly announced investment was a seed funding round for Indonesian media platform Katadata. Its other recent investments include AI startup Bahasa.ai and retail technology startup Warung Pintar.
Earlier this year, East Ventures, along with Sinar Mas, had entered into a JV with Yahoo Japan to form EV Growth, a venture capital fund targeting to raise $150 million, to be invested in growth startups in SE Asia, with special focus on Indonesia.
