Polling app <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://myvote.today/">MyVote.Today</a> is raising $700,000 in seed funding from a group of angel investors, Samridh Agarwal, co-founder of the startup, told DEALSTREETASIA.
These are individual angel investors as well as investors who have come together as a syndicate, Agarwal said, without disclosing their names. The deal is expected to close within 3-4 weeks.
MyVote.Today started as a concept in November 2015 under the legal name of Apption Digital Technologies Pvt Ltd. Its Android App was launched on January 26, 2016 and iOS App on 16 February, 2016.
It will use the funding towards customer acquisition and outreach, hiring content writers, social media managers and product techies and enhancing the functioning of the App.
Launched by Amit Bagaria, BG Mahesh and Samridh Agarwal, the App aims to improve the quality of democracy in India and other select nations, vide citizens voting on ‘concerns that matter &amp; matters that concern’ in order to influence governance at the local and national level.
MyVote.Today is also a platform for users to voice their opinions or concerns anonymously, something that does not exist currently.
There are other similar apps like <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=SurveyMonkey" target="_blank">SurveyMonkey</a>, <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://change.org/" target="_blank">change.org</a>, Brigde, <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.localcircles.com/a/" target="_blank">LocalCircles</a> but MyVote.Today claims to have additional features such as sports voting, prime time news debate voting, celebrity voting and sponsored market surveys.
In three months, MyVote.Today has over 23,000 followers on Twitter. The company claimed it had got 8174 votes on DailyPoll per day in March from 2944 in January.
The company aims to earn revenues from six distinct streams including sponsored polls, micro-targeted advertising with couponing, sports voting, prime time feedback, entertainment voting and data analytics with deep slicing &amp; dicing. It plans to start generating revenue after hitting 25,000 weekly active users.
Currently, operating from its Bangalore office, MyVote.Today has nine members in its team and is planning to hire more once it closes the round.
