Vietnam-based price comparison platform Websosanh.vn has “joined”  Yello Shopping Media (YSM), a unit of Korea’s mobile service group Yello Mobile through a recent deal signing ceremony on June 22.

While the nature of the transaction has not been confirmed, it is being speculated as a possible stake acquisition deal.

Even though there has been no official announcement of the deal, Yello Mobile Communication team has confirmed the development to DEALSTREETASIA. In an email, Yello Mobile said  that the official statement regarding this development was “in-progress” and should be out next week, adding that “the company that Websosanh has joined is YSM”.

The event was also updated on some Facebook posts from Websosanh.vn’s founders and friends. One of the social media (Facebook photo) posts was by Dzung Nguyen, Cyberagent Ventures Inc’s head of Vietnam and Thailand, and who has allegedly connected the two companies that then came together for the deal.

DEALSTREETASIA has tried reaching out to the Vietnamese startup multiple times since June 22, but none of the officials at Websosanh.vn had responded till the time of publishing the report.

“YSM is Yello Mobile group’s shopping media division, which includes online and mobile shopping search, an overseas direct purchase platform as well as a sales and sourcing platform,” the email added.

DEALSTREETASIA reported earlier this week that the Korean firm has acquired a majority stake in Thailand’s online marketing firm  for an an undisclosed amount.

Following this development and taking into account the earlier acquisition pattern of Yello Mobile, the industry insiders are speculating that Websosanh.vn might have been acquired by the Korean firm.

There is no official news whether the Japanese venture capital firm has invested in Websosanh.vn. Meanwhile, Cyberagent Ventures does have undisclosed investments in the Vietnam-based startups.

Websosanh.vn, which was co-founder by Vu Quang Trung, was launched to capitalise on the robust growth of the local e-commerce market.

Its database covers all the products available in the Vietnamese market, even including prices of taxi fares, costs of credit cards, wedding photography packages and mooncake prices.

The platform was one of the finalists at the Nhan Tai Dat Viet (Vietnamese Talents) 2014 programme, and is striving to become the leading product search and price comparison site in Vietnam.

In addition, Wesosanh.vn, along with Lamchame.com – a portal for young parents – are the first websites in Vietnam that accept transaction in bitcoins.

Websosanh.vn has gained steady traffic and is listed in the country’s top 500 websites.
