Indonesian peer-to-peer lending platform <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/UangTeman">UangTeman</a> has announced the appointment of former <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/Kudo">Kudo</a> and <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/Kaskus">Kaskus</a> executive Sukan Makmuri as the company’s new Chief Technology and Operations Officer.
According to an official release, Makmuri’s appointment is the first among a series of executive transitions at the company as it prepares to scale its service throughout Indonesia and Southeast Asia and finalizes its Series B round.
At O2O startup Kudo, Makmuri served as CTO during its acquisition by Grab, which came after a one-year stint at Indonesia’s largest online portal Kaskus as CEO.
His new role at UangTeman will involve leading the startup’s efforts to scale its technology, research and development and drive towards a more automated and scalable digital lending technology framework, the release states.
“Sukan is a transformational leader who has successfully scaled up two major Indonesian startups in his career. His achievements prove a deep understanding of what it takes to drive, nurture and guide local technology talent to survive hyper growth. With operations in 13 cities across Indonesia and imminent Southeast Asia expansion, UangTeman will greatly benefit from Sukan’s years of experience,” said UangTeman CEO and Founder Aidil Zulkifli.
Prior to his leadership roles in Indonesian startups, Makmuri honed his business, product management, finance, and technology skills in several startups in Silicon Valley, as a senior consultant to major corporations, and as vice president of internet banking technology at Bank of America.
In the last few years, he has also taken up the role of mentor at a number of startups and incubators in Silicon Valley and Southeast Asia.
At UangTeman, Makmuri, who holds an MS in engineering management from Stanford University and computer science from Rice University, will also be focused on delivering technology solutions to solve operational problems such as credit underwriting, disbursement and collections in UangTeman, leading and growing the current 40 engineering and product team at the company.
Commenting on his new role, Makmuri said: “I’m excited to work with Aidil and the team at UangTeman to improve and scale those standards across Southeast Asia as we advance towards our goal of empowering the region’s underbanked with safe, transparent and accessible financial services.”
UangTeman’s Series A funding came in August 2017 when it closed a $12-million round in debt and equity round of funding led by K2 Venture Capital. Hong Kong-based STI Financial Group, Draper Associates and Indonesia’s Alpha JWC Ventures also joined the round.
In February, UangTeman told DEALSTREETASIA that it is set to raise a Series B financing round by mid-2018, claiming it would be one of the largest such rounds for a fintech firm in Southeast Asia.
