Global venture capital firm GGV Capital is looking to raise some $1.88 billion across seven funds, according to a filing with the SEC dated August 13.
The funds listed in the filing are GGV Capital VII, GGV Capital VII-A, GGV Capital VII Plus, GGV Capital VII-A Plus, GGV Discovery II, GGV Discovery II-A, and GGV Capital VII Entrepreneurs Fund. No capital has been raised for any of these vehicles thus far.
The latest fundraising amount is $600 million more than the<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/ggv-capital-raises-1-2-billion-as-venture-fundraising-streak-continues-37173/"> $1.2 billion raised in April 2016</a>. The amount was split between four vehicles &#8211; $900 million for GGV Capital&#8217;s main funds, GGV Capital VI and VI Plus; $250 million in GGV Discovery focused on early-stage investments in China; and $50 million in the GGV Capital VI Entrepreneurs Fund consisting largely of company founders as LPs.
The SEC filing did not indicate how the VC firm plans to split the $1.88-billion corpus across the seven vehicles.
GGV Capital had raised RMB1.5 billion ($220 million) for its first RMB-denominated fund this May to invest in early- and growth-stage startups in internet services, advanced technologies, smart hardware, enterprise services and digital services, bringing its total AUM to over $4 billion.
Founded in 2000, GGV Capital has offices in Silicon Valley, Beijing and Shanghai, and has six managing partners &#8211; Jixun Foo, Hans Tung, Jenny Lee, Glenn Solomon, Eric Xu and Jeff Richards.
After almost two decades of investment journey, GGV Capital now has over 40 &#8220;unicorn&#8221; startups across its US and China portfolios which include the likes of Alibaba, Airbnb, Didi Chuxing, Toutiao, YY, Slack, and in Southeast Asia, Grab.
The VC firm has recently backed online education startup Zuoyebang&#8217;s $350-million Series D, New York-based HR platform Namely&#8217;s $6-million Series E and online reading platform Koala Reading&#8217;s $20-million Series B.
