Singapore-based <a href="http://glints.com/" target="_blank">Glints</a>, founded by Oswald Yeo, Seah Ying Cong and Looi Qin En, secured S$475,000 in seed funding from venture capitalists and media agencies..
This was in an oversubscribed round led by <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=East+Ventures">East Ventures</a> and later joined by <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=500+Startups">500 Startups</a>, <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://sph.com.sg/" target="_blank">SPH Media Fund</a>, <a href="http://www.infocomminvestments.com" target="_blank">Singapore Infocomm Investments (IIPL)</a>, <a href="http://8capita.com" target="_blank">8 Capita</a>, <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.pixvc.com/" target="_blank">Pix Vine Capital</a> and other private investors.
It functions as a talent recruitment and matching platform that helps youth seek out skill sets required in different careers; matching them with jobs, internships and courses that could cultivate those skills in demand.
Claiming to have over 7000 students and 600 companies on its platform, Glints also performs headhunting for employers, though payment is only required when candidate matching is successful.
Oswald Yeo, Seah Ying Cong and Looi Qin En, all 21 years old, placed their academic careers on hold at the Wharton Business School and University of California, Berkeley, to help tackle the problems confronting 75 million unemployed youth. To this end, they enrolled last year in JFDI, where they were the youngest participants.
The enterprising trio have secured $475,000 in seed money.
Speaking about the investment, <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://sg.linkedin.com/in/alincl/en" target="_blank">Alex Lin</a>, the head of IIPL, said &#8220;We chose Glints because they are solving a pressing and global talent problem for our society.&#8221;
He added that &#8220;The injection of new funds will speed up their development and help them address the market globally.&#8221;
<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://sg.linkedin.com/in/willsoncuaca/en" target="_blank">Willson Cuaca</a>, managing partner at East Ventures, which has also invested in local tech startup media platform <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://https://www.techinasia.com/" target="_blank">Tech in Asia</a>, added that the young entrepreneurs continued to attract interest from investors after closing calls for financing. &#8220;The young and passionate team has shown market validation in such a short time since inception.&#8221;
