Indonesia’s ride-hailing giant GOJEK on Thursday announced the appointment of Lien Choong Luen as general manager for its Singapore operations.
Luen will be responsible for GOJEK’s commercial operations and other business activities in the city-state, per a statement. He joins the ride-hailing firm from Singapore&#8217;s National Research Foundation. His prior stints include five years as a strategy consultant leading the McKinsey Centre for Government.
“GOJEK is committed to Singapore for the long term. Since we introduced our beta ride-hailing service here, the response has been extremely positive and we will continue to fine-tune our offering to create the best experience for all our users,” said Luen.
GOJEK president Andre Soelistyo said Luen’s understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship made him a fantastic choice for the firm.
Other top executives at GOJEK Singapore include operations head Chua Min Han and vice-president and marketing head Archishman Ramasubramanian.
GOJEK started with a beta rollout in Singapore in late 2018 and followed that up with a nationwide rollout in January 2019. Its team in the city-state has grown to 150 employees.
The Indonesian unicorn recently announced the first close of its Series F funding round, which is expected to be slightly over $1 billion, from leading companies such as Google, JD.com and Tencent. With the latest commitment secured, the tech major is valued at nearly $10 billion.
