Due to a shortage of accommodation at the Golden Rock (Kyaikhtiyo) in Mon state, a hotel zone will be set up to accommodate tourists.
The most popular tourist destinations in Myanmar are Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan and Inle lake. While Golden Rock has grown in popularity lodging still remains difficult.
“There are so many tourists coming to the Golden Rock. Most of them are from Thailand and China. It was difficult to get a place at the Golden Rock last year. The Hoteliers’ Association will establish a hotel zone to take care of the problem,” U Yan Win from Myanmar Hoteliers’ Association told Myanmar Business Today.
The Golden Rock hotel zone will include hotels, car parking, and restaurants and construction is expected to start next year, he added.
There are 19 hotel zones in Myanmar at present, and there are arrangements to establish a separate one for Kachin state. Last year the hotel zone for Northern Shan state was established.
