Southeast Asia’s ride-hailing firm Grab has partnered with Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet and local air delivery service startup Swift247 to provide air travel solutions to customers across the region, as well as super express delivery services in Vietnam.
This is the first time Grab has collaborated with a Vietnamese airliner.
“The strategic partnership allows Vietjet and Grab to leverage on technological advantages to develop low-cost solutions for road and air mobility,” the companies said in a joint statement.
Swift247 will enable Grab and Vietjet to connect air flights with road transportation in super express delivery service, which will see Swift247 customers able to deliver goods via GrabExpress and Vietjet aircrafts within five hours between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in the first phase of the partnership.
Further ahead, the parties will examine the ability of integrating Swift247 services into the Grab open platform, creating access to services for consumers of all parties.
Having garnered the biggest domestic flight market share, Vietjet recently announced plans to foray into e-commerce with a future platform to sell everything rather than just tickets. Vietjet chairwoman cum CEO Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao said the latest partnership with Grab and Swift247 “is also a new step on the path to becoming a ‘Consumer Airline’, providing all kinds of services that consumers of Vietjet need”.
The companies said they will bring this partnership to other Southeast Asia markets, leveraging their regional operations.
“With Vietjet’s wide range of airline routes to domestic and international destinations and Grab’s unicorn position and extensive driver partners and users base, customers will be able to experience a convenient and reliable delivery service, supported by technology,” said Tommy Nguyen from Swift247.
Meanwhile, Jerry Lim, country head of Grab Vietnam, revealed that the air transport partnership with Vietjet “is the first step for Grab to thrive for deeper cooperation with Sovico Holdings”. For the uninitiated, Sovico Holdings is a diversified group in Vietnam chaired by Thao.
“The strategic partnership with Swift247 and Vietjet proves our strong commitment in investing more toward the digitalisation of transport infrastructure, helping local enterprises to expand regionally and developing home-grown startups”, he added.
The ride-hailing major has also forged similar partnership with Thailand’s Central Group to strengthen Grab’s delivery services in the local market and the latter’s e-commerce and logistics capacity.
