Grab and Vietnamese taxi company Vinasun have agreed to &#8220;consider amicable arrangements&#8221; to settle an ongoing legal dispute, the Singapore-headquartered firm said in a statement.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
In a statement regarding the settlement, Grab Vietnam country head Jerry Lim said the ride-hailing startup is pleased with the &#8220;positive outcome&#8221;, adding that Grab is optimistic that both parties will ultimately find a win-win solution that can best serve the interests of the Vietnamese.
&#8220;Putting aside the court case, traditional and technology businesses can co-exist well together and learn from one another to grow and solve big, meaningful challenges together for the transportation industry. In all the countries that we operate across Southeast Asia, we take a partnership approach and seek to play a complementary role to the incumbent taxi business and public transportation industry,&#8221; said Lim.
Grab Vietnam added that the startup is collaborating with taxi companies and testing JustGrab in some Vietnamese provinces.

Early this year, Vinasun had filed a lawsuit against Grab, claiming it had suffered losses of VND41 billion ($1.8 million) between January 2016 and June 2017 due to the ride-hailing firm&#8217;s entry into Vietnam. Truong Dinh Quy, the deputy CEO of Vinasun, had alleged that Grab had an unfair advantage, especially when it came to pricing, as it was not governed by the transport regulations and taxes imposed on taxi firms.
Previously, Vietnam&#8217;s prosecutors had recommended that Grab <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/vietnamese-prosecutor-grab-taxi-109756/">be treated as a taxi operator</a>, and not as a tech firm. However, Grab had strongly opposed the recommendation, pointing out that the startup operates under a legislation issued by the Prime Minister, called Decision 24, for a pilot programme on the use of technology in transportation services.
