Global private markets asset manager <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=HarbourVest%20Partners">HarbourVest Partners</a> has closed its flagship Europe, Asia, and emerging markets-focused fund at $1.7 billion, above its target.
The new fund also raised 13 per cent more than the prior fund, which closed in August 2015 with $1.5 billion, HarbourVest said.
In an announcement, HarbourVest Partners said, HIPEP VIII Partnerships was oversubscribed and has attracted more than 40 investors from different countries, including Germany, Japan the United Kingdom, and the United States.
The investors include institutional clients such as private and public pensions, corporations, foundations, and family offices, as well as clients through private distribution partners.
“This latest fundraiser shows the demand from existing and new investors for global, ex-US private equity,” said Carolina Espinal, Managing Director, HarbourVest.
HarbourVest, which began making commitments in May 2017, has more than $40 billion in assets under management and offers clients investment opportunities through primary fund investments, secondary investments, and direct co-investments in co-mingled funds or separately managed accounts.
It has committed approximately 29 per cent of its capital, in-line with a planned 3-4 year investment period. The portfolio currently includes 10 commitments to leading private equity managers in Europe and Asia Pacific, all of which have been oversubscribed.
“HarbourVest has invested more than $25 billion in Europe, Asia Pacific, and other emerging markets over the last 30 years. These long-term relationships allow us to provide clients with access to local and specialized insights in an evolving global private equity market,” said Peter Wilson, Managing Director and member of the Executive Management Committee at HarbourVest.
Early this month, the firm announced its promotion list, which includes one in Asia – Till Burges – who has been appointed as the Managing Director, Primary Investments in Hong Kong.
The list includes six Managing Directors, six Principals, and four Senior Vice Presidents, an announcement said earlier.
Till Burges, an investment manager (Principle) at HarbourVest since August 2017 is currently based in Hong Kong and is focused on primary investments in buyout and venture capital funds in Asia and Europe, according to LinkedIn.
