Hong Kong-based real estate private equity firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/shopping-malls-catch-the-fancy-of-realty-investors-61389/">Phoenix Property Investors</a> is on the road to raise $900 million for its sixth Asia opportunistic fund, Phoenix Asia Real Estate Investments VI, that was launched late last year.
According to a report from PERE on Tuesday, the close-ended fund, like its predecessors, will invest across Asia. However, this time, along with China, Hong Kong and Japan, it has also added Australia to the list of investment destinations for the first time.
The sixth vehicle is looking to mop up more than what it raised in its previous funds in the series. The fifth fund closed at $750 million in late 2013 and Fund IV raised $460 million.
In fact, the report also noted that like Fund IV and V for the latest fund, Monument Group is likely to be the placement agent. Phoenix Property Investments declined to offer any immediate comments when contacted by DEALSTREETASIA through e-mail.
Founded in 2002, Phoenix Property Investors is independently owned by its partners with a fully integrated investment, project management and asset management platform in Asia. The firm works with global institutional investors, including public and corporate pension funds, foundations, university endowments and important family offices. It is also active in the opportunistic equity, core/core-plus equity and debt business.
As of June last year, Phoenix exceeded $7.6 billion of real estate assets under its management. It invests in real estate investment opportunities in the residential, retail, office and commercial sectors across 12 first-tier, Pan-Asian cities, including Hong Kong, Beijing, Jakarta, Kyoto, Manila, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Taipei, Tokyo and Osaka.
In fact, the firm is also looking to increase investments in South-east Asia property markets including Singapore along with Jakarta and Manila, it said in 2016. Late last year, it sold two Hong Kong properties for a combined $322 million.
