From being one of the hottest startups in India, the Bangalore-based company lost momentum after the board sacked co-founder and CEO <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/india-housing-coms-senior-staff-leaving-might-go-for-rahul-yadavs-startup-11829/" target="_blank">Rahul Yadav</a>. Kothari is familiar with the business, having served as chief business officer at Housing since August.
Interim CEO Rishabh Gupta will leave the company, which was being governed by the board composed mainly of investors, the biggest of which is Softbank with a reported <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2014-11-19/news/56265742_1_helion-venture-partners-soft-bank-indian-realty-market" target="_blank">30 per cent stake</a> since its December 2014 round. The startup has cut costs and laid off employees as part of a restructuring process.
It has closed down categories such as commercial properties, short stays and the land business. <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/india-housing-coms-senior-staff-leaving-might-go-for-rahul-yadavs-startup-11829/" target="_blank">Several senior executives</a>, who were part of Yadav&#8217;s team, have left. The company has since hired replacements to rebuild the team.

Kothari helped hire senior executives such as chief financial officer Mani Rangarajan, general counsel Nandini Mehta, and chief marketing officer Nikhil Rungta. Prior to joining Housing, Kothari was co-founder and CEO of <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.valiantentertainment.com" target="_blank">Valiant Entertainment</a>, a US-based company that produces comic books. He holds a bachelors degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Founded in 2012, Housing.com currently has 2,500 employees in 50 cities. Run by Locon Solutions Pvt. Ltd, it is backed by Japan’s SoftBank Corp., Nexus Venture Partners, DST Global LP, Falcon Edge Capital LP, Digital Nirvana Fund Co. Ltd, Qualcomm Ventures and Helion Venture Partners.
