World Bank Group member International Finance Corporation (IFC) is considering a senior debt financing package of up to $200 million for Thai non-bank lender Tidlor Holdings and its operating unit Ngern Tid Lor (NTL).
In a project disclosure, IFC said the proposed investment will comprise debt securities and/or loans to Tidlor and NTL, and will be committed in tranches.
Established in 1980, Bangkok-based NTL provides vehicle title loans, hire purchase financing, and insurance brokerage services, primarily targeting microentrepreneurs. The company operates more than 1,950 branches across Thailand.
The first investment will see IFC subscribe for up to $25 million, for its own account, as an anchor investor in Tidlor’s debut yen-denominated public notes. The issuance will also mark the company’s first international bond offering.
At least 75% of the proceeds from the broader financing package will be earmarked for women microentrepreneurs in Thailand.
“IFC’s participation as an anchor investor in Tidlor’s debut public note issuance in the international market will send a strong signal to the market and boost potential investors’ confidence,” IFC said.
The financing is expected to support NTL’s lending to microentrepreneurs, enabling small businesses to invest in productive assets, stabilise cash flows and expand operations.
IFC said improved access to formal and affordable financing could also help address income inequality and underemployment among lower-income segments of Thailand’s population.
The medium-term financing will provide Tidlor with longer-term funding and greater diversification than typically available to non-bank financial institutions, according to IFC.
It is also expected to strengthen the group’s asset-liability profile and reduce its liquidity gap, while allowing it to extend medium-term loans to microentrepreneurs.
The project will additionally support NTL’s expansion of insurance products, including life insurance, while IFC will provide expertise on responsible lending and client protection, per the disclosure.
Tidlor underwent a corporate restructuring in 2025 that created a holding company structure. Under a share swap completed that year, Tidlor Holdings became the owner of a 99.4% stake in NTL.
Tidlor Holdings subsequently listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand on May 15, 2025. NTL remains the group’s core operating business and Tidlor Holdings’ sole subsidiary.
In 2020, IFC extended a three-year loan of up to $100 million and a cross-currency swap to NTL to expand the Thai company’s local-currency financing to micro and small enterprises.
