<h3>Tatas acquire GrocerMax team, tech for online grocery foray</h3>
To foray into the online grocery business, the<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://Dealstreeetasia.com/tag/tata-group" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Tata group</a> is buying out the management team and technology infrastructure of Gurgaon-based <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/grocermax" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">GrocerMax</a>, according to <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/services/retail/tata-group-to-enter-online-grocery-business-by-acquiring-gurgaon-based-grocermax/articleshow/59315251.cms" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">a report</a> in The Economic Times.
The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
To take on incumbent rivals<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/bigbasket" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> Bigbasket</a> and <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/amazon" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Amazon</a> in the online grocery delivery space, the new team will help set up the online platform for Trent Hypermarket, an equal joint venture between Tata and UK-based retailer Tesco.
As per the report, GrocerMax will shut down its business in Gurgaon because the Tata group&#8217;s grocery business is not present in North India.
The Tata group runs three formats under the Star banner—Dailies, Market and Hyper—and has around 42 stores.

In a review of its assets portfolio <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/tata-steel" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Tata Steel</a>, may merge some of its subsidiaries, according to <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/indl-goods/svs/steel/tata-steel-could-merge-some-of-its-subsidiaries-md-tv-narendran/articleshow/59314263.cms" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">a report</a> in The Economic Times.
&#8220;Yes, if it makes sense&#8230;in the past subsidiaries have become divisions of Tata Steel. &#8230;Like, the Tube company became the tube division. These are all possibilities,&#8221; TV Narendran, managing director at Tata Steel India and South-East Asia, told the news paper.
As per the report, Tata Steel has 22 subsidiary companies, including listed companies such as Tata Sponge and Tata Metaliks. According to the 2016 financial results, almost a dozen of these reported losses. The company is currently is in the process of closing down Tayo Rolls, a loss-making business.
&#8220;If you have to allocate capital where would you do it — that&#8217;s a call we will take. The first step is to make sure all the subsidiaries we have don&#8217;t lose money. Some of them have strong cash flows and can find their own growth,&#8221; Narendran said.
