It&#8217;s September and time for <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.apple.com" target="_blank">Apple&#8217;s</a> new products. From a whole new iPad Pro to the shiny new iPhone 6S and iOS9, the company made a splash yet again.
While most features of the new iPhone are similar to the iPhone 6, the new <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.apple.com/iphone-6s/3d-touch/" target="_blank">3D touch interface</a> is a clear differentiator. It also comes with a better camera and ability to record videos in 4K resolution.
Apple, the world&#8217;s most valuable technology company, derives over half of its revenue from its smash-hit iPhones, and this time it is being rolled out in twelve countries (see pic)  on launch day, September 25.
One country seems left out, just as it has been all these years: India. China used to be in the same category earlier but sales have <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://techcrunch.com/2015/09/09/apples-iphone-market-grew-75-year-over-year-in-china/#.ptylfs:Rl58" target="_blank">skyrocketed in that market</a> and Apple has upgraded it to list of countries where the iPhone will be available on the same day as in the U.S.
While reports say that India might get it in time for for the <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/tech/mobiles/Apple-launches-iPhone-6S-6S-Plus-with-3D-Touch/articleshow/48891663.cms" target="_blank">Diwali festive season</a>, there is no word from Apple on that. The company did say that the phone will be available in 130 countries by the end of the year. India should make it to that list.
But they will be costlier than in the US, because of heavy import duties, just like in China. The US prices for unlocked models will range from $649 for the 16GB version to $849 for the 64GB iPhone 6S, and between $749 &#8211; $949 for the iPhone 6S Plus. However in China, a 16GB iPhone 6S is <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.techinasia.com/apples-iphones-coming-asia/" target="_blank">expected to cost as much as $827</a>. Indian customers should expect similar or higher pricing.
Still, that would be way better than the over six months of waiting that used to be the norm for new iPhones to arrive in India until a couple of years ago.
Older iPhone users who do not intend to upgrade can get their hands on the new iOS 9 on September 16.
