Delhi-based early-stage investor <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/waterbridge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WaterBridge Ventures</a> has reached the final close of its maiden venture capital fund at $30 million, according to <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/startups/newsbuzz/vc-firm-waterbridge-closes-30m-maiden-fund/articleshow/63105013.cms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a report</a> in The Economic Times.
WaterBridge was founded by private equity veteran Manish Kheterpal in 2015, with the aim of investing in early stage startups. The technology-focused fund had made its first close at $7 million in 2016, when it was targeting a corpus of up to $15 million.
Kheterpal has around two decades of investment experience including a number of angel investments. He was earlier a director at Providence Equity Partners, a TMT focused fund with $30 Billion AUM, and a denior investment professional with Actis (India) and Rho Ventures (USA).
Queries sent by DEALSTREETASIA to WaterBridge Ventures are yet to illicit a response.
While the venture capital firm has already announced six of its investments, as per the news report, it has also made three more deals, which are yet to be disclosed.
Through its seven-year SEBI-registered Category-II Alternate Investment Fund, WaterBridge Ventures plans to make 15-20 investments. It is focusing on areas like B2B analytics, social, consumer internet and technology plays in education, healthcare government and BFSI, said the report.
After the highs of 2014-16, early-stage investments witnessed a decline last year, however the dry powder accumulated by investors is steadily piling up.
Last month, Bengaluru-based venture capital firm <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/3one4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">3one4 Capital</a> closed its second fund with commitments for Rs 250 crore ($39 million), surpassing its initial target of Rs 150 crore. Prior to that, another tech-focused early-stage venture capital firm <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/pi-ventures" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pi Ventures</a> marked the second close of its $30-million maiden fund at $25 million.
“Startups require hand-holding and institutional approach in strategic, operational matters and capital structure formation before they are ready for later-stage investors. That’s where funds like WaterBridge play an important role,&#8221; Kheterpal added.
