Indian data center operator CtrlS on Tuesday said it will invest 100 billion rupees ($1.05 billion) to set up a 150-megawatt hyperscale AI factory in Bodh Gaya in the eastern Indian state of Bihar.

The data center facility will support the digital infrastructure needs of government institutions, companies and hyperscalers in Bihar and eastern India, the company said.

CtrlS said it had previously invested 4 billion rupees in setting up a data center in Patna in Bihar, which currently has a capacity of 12 megawatts, with scope to expand in line with future demand.

The company plans to set up more than 20 edge data centers in smaller cities in India over the coming years, Sridhar Pinnapureddy, CEO, said in a statement.

CtrlS currently operates 19 data centers in India.

Several Indian companies have committed to data center investments in the country this year, including IT services company HCLTech and engineering and construction conglomerate L&T.
