The government is also seeking as much as Rp 20 trillion ($1.47 billion) to help finance infrastructure projects that should start early in 2016.
“It can be raised from local or global (borrowing). There is a chance we might pick global (route),&#8221; Scenaider Siahaan, director for strategy and financing, at the Finance Ministry’s financing and risk management office, told reporters.
The bond issuance is part of a larger plan to generate up to $5 billion to plug this year’s budget deficit that is estimated at 2.15% of gross domestic product (GDP).
<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.dpr.go.id">The People’s Representative Council</a> (DPR) has approved the State Budget for 2016 on Friday. In the budget, the total government spending reached Rp 2,095.7 trillion, while revenues stood at Rp 1,822.5 trillion, leaving a state budget deficit of Rp273.2 trillion, or 2.15 per cent of GDP.
In the 2015 Revised State Budget, the total government spending amounted to Rp 1,984.1 trillion, comprising of state revenue at Rp 1,758.3 trillion, consisting of Rp1,489.3 trillion in tax revenue, Rp 269.1 trillion non-tax revenues and grants at Rp3.3 trillion. This leaves a budget deficit of Rp 222.5 trillion, or 1.90 percent of GDP.
