Indonesia-based healthtech startup Halodoc is in talks with multiple venture capital firms (VC) in Southeast Asia to raise around $50 million in funding, according to three industry sources.
The startup is seeking financing at a pre-money valuation of about $250 million, the industry executives in the know said. The funding round is expected to be closed by early next year.
Terming it speculation, a Halodoc spokesperson refused to offer a comment for this story.
Halodoc offers a mobile app for patients to consult a doctor via chat, video and voice calls. Its users can also buy medicines from its partner pharmacies and have them delivered by Go-Jek drivers.
Go-Jek had made an unspecified investment in Halodoc in 2016 and last year, the ride-hailing unicorn integrated its own medicine delivery app Go-MED with Halodoc.
One of the aforementioned industry executives said that Go-Jek and Singapore-based investment firm Clermont, which is also an existing Halodoc backer, could participate in the startup&#8217;s latest funding round. Clermont had led a $13-million Series A round for Halodoc in 2016. The round was joined by Blibli.com and Openspace Ventures (then called NSI Ventures), in addition to Go-Jek.
Halodoc connects users to a network of more than 22,000 licensed doctors ranging from general practitioners to specialists on its app. It has also joined hands with 1,200 pharmacies across 25 cities in Indonesia for ordering and delivery of medicines.
Local rivals include Alodokter, Dokter.id, MeetDoctor, KlikDokter, and 1Health.
According to a Galen Growth Asia report, healthtech funding in Asian startups is expected to exceed $5.5 billion in 2018. The region witnessed a strong third quarter with total funding reaching $1.4 billion as healthtech startups and investors sealed the highest number of deals in a quarter this year. At the end of the third quarter, year-to-date funding had crossed $4.97 billion.
Southeast Asia is witnessing an accelerated pace of funding too. Total healthtech funding in the third quarter this year reached $28.9 million, with notable deals including Singapore-based <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/singapore-holmusk-pre-seriesa-107385/">Holmusk raising $9.75 million</a> and Myanmar recording its first healthtech deal that was the <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/seed-myanmar-leads-100k-funding-in-fitness-app-flexible-pass-eyes-two-more-investments-104987/">$100k investment in Flexible Pass</a>. A strong showing in Q3 pushed Southeast Asia&#8217;s YTD healthtech funding total to $86.6 million, surpassing the 2017 total.
