Indonesian media conglomerate <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/Emtek/">Emtek</a> Group has made a $4 million investment in job marketplace company Qareer Group Asia, according to the group’s Q3 financial report.
The investment was made through Emtek’s investment arm KMK Online in September, the report states. The investment of Rp 59,632,000 was made in exchange for 33.5% stake or 310,472 shares in Qareer Group Asia.
Singapore-headquartered Qareer Group Asia is the company behind two more widely known job listing portals Qerja and Jobs.id.
In 2015, Qerja announced an undisclosed series A funding round from the SB ISAT Fund, a collaboration between SoftBank and local telco Indosat. Prior to that, the company, which operates in Indonesia and Malaysia, raised its seed funding from Kejora Ventures.
The fresh capital will help Qareer Group Asia ward off incoming competition in the regional job marketplace industry. Recently, Singapore-based job matching platform GrabJobs says it plans to raise S$5 million ($3.75 million) in a Series A round to fuel expansion to other Southeast Asian countries.
Emtek, which operates free-to-air television stations in the country, has invested in a number of startups since 2015 notably Rumah.com, Rumahdijual.com, Bola.com, Karir.com, Hijup.com, Kudo, Bobobobo.com, and Bukalapak.com.
In the first half of 2017, Emtek injected Rp 344 billion into “several VC firms”, including a minority investment in ride-hailing app Grab Inc.
