Setting an active investment pace for the year, Southeast Asian venture capital firm <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/Indogen-Capital">Indogen Capital</a> has said it is looking to back up to 10 startups in 2019, to add to its 15-strong portfolio.
Moreover, the firm will is also targeting two more exits in the next couple of years, Indogen said, in an official statement.
Jakarta-based Indogen Capital, which was set up in 2016, typically invests in post-seed stage companies and describes itself as sector-agnostic. The firm has invested across various sectors such as fintech, marketplace, e-commerce, retail, and real estate and has targeted companies in Southeast Asia and Greater China region.
Its list of portfolio companies includes Malaysian used car platform Carsome, Indonesian travel platform Travelio and Philippine HR tech platform Venteny.
The VC has achieved three exits so far in Spacemob (acquired by WeWork), Clearbridge Health (IPO in Singapore Stock Exchange), and AINO (partially acquired by TIS Corp), and will expect two more exits by 2020. Exit potential, the firm said, is one of the things it considers when deciding on an investment.
“We look to understand where the entrepreneurs are coming from until we have a clear line of sight to their exit strategies. Once we do, we will work alongside them to realize those opportunities,” said Indogen Principal Benny Tjia.
Indogen was set up by five founders namely Chandra Firmanto and Hendry Willy, who between them, have a combined 35 years of experience running their respective family businesses across 2nd and 3rd tier cities in Indonesia. The other three founders are investor Teezar Firmansyah, Tokopedia co-founder and director Leontinus Alpha Edison and Ciputra conglomerate heir Nararya Ciputra Sastrawinata.
According to reports, the firm’s initial fund was pooled from the partners’ own pockets, as well as those of family members and friends.
However, last year DEALSTREETASIA reported that three of the founders, Firmansyah, Edison and Sastrawinata, had set up a separate VC firm called Kolibra Capital, which says it has received the backing of an incubator, a family fund, and fund of funds based in Indonesia and overseas.
