<a style="color: #000080;" href="http://neo.bubu.com">Bubu.com</a>, homegrown web development and digital advertising firm, will hold the third IDByte conference from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 in Jakarta, in hunt for Indonesia’s next rising star in the local start-up scene.
Shinta Dhanuwardoyo, founder of Bubu.com, during a luncheon with reporters in Jakarta, said the IDByte conference with the theme “Connected e-Conomy,” is aims to place Indonesia on the global digital map. The 2015 IDByte will discuss a wide range of topics, ranging from the Internet of things (IoT) to digital marketing.
IDByte will also present global leaders from world-renowned companies, including <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.facebook.com">Facebook</a>’s John Lagerling and <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.airasia.com">AirAsia</a>’s Tony Fernandes. Jack Ma, the CEO of China’s e-commerce giant <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.alibaba.com">Ali Baba</a> is also expected to be confirmed as a guest speaker.
As part of the conference, Bubu.com will also hold the ninth annual Bubu Awards to dub one local start-up company as “The Best Start-Up Company in Indonesia.” The winner will fly to the United States for a one-week boot camp with Silicon Valley Asia Technology Alliance (SVATA).
Bubu.com will start its quest for the country’s best start-up firm next week with visits to several big cities across Indonesia, including Jakarta, Bandung and Makassar, South Sulawesi. The company typically receives up to 500 entries for the award, according to Shinta.
She explained that Indonesian startups need to find a way to better position themselves in the market through more local economy-based innovation and going beyond borders.
Jim Yang, San Francisco-based founder and CEO of dating app <a style="color: #000080;" href="http://www.gather.com">Gather</a>, said that Indonesian startups were basically as good as their global peers, but more intellectuals were needed to produce more innovation.
Yang, who is based in Silicon Valley, said that there was a system that allowed startups in Silicon Valley to learn from one another as well as having strong financial support from a pool of funding. 

Shinta said that the main purpose of IDByte was to make Indonesia known in the world’s digital landscape. She added that this year’s IDByte was expected to be attended by a larger number of participants compared to the 2013 event, which attracted some 700 participants in the seminar and 500 entries for the startup awards.
<a style="color: #000080;" href="www.kominfo.go.id">Minister of Communications and Information</a> Rudiantara has said previously that the government had planned to collect as much as $1 billion from local business tycoons to help startups develop their businesses.
The plan is expected to benefit small-medium enterprises in the country, which is estimated to reach more-than 55 million units, accounted for around 90 per cent of employment, he added.
