<a href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Ford+" target="_blank">Ford </a>acquires Israeli computer vision and machine learning company <a href="http://www.saips.co.il" target="_blank">SAIPS</a> while <a href="http://www.bullguard.com" target="_blank">BullGuard</a> acquires Israeli IoT startup <a href="https://www.dojo-labs.com" target="_blank">Dojo-Labs</a>.
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">Ford acquires SAIPS as part of its pledge to develop driverless cars by 2021</h3>
US carmaker Ford on Tuesday <a href="https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2016/08/16/ford-targets-fully-autonomous-vehicle-for-ride-sharing-in-2021.html" target="_blank">announced its acquisition</a> of SAIPS, an Israeli company focusing on machine learning and computer vision, as part of Ford&#8217;s bold pledge to deliver driverless cars on roads by 2021.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed but have been speculated to be around tens of millions of dollars. The acquisition of the Rehovot-based company is also Ford&#8217;s first acquisition in Israel.
SAIPS will help the car manufacturing powerhouse further strengthen its expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and enhance computer vision through the development of advanced AI algorithms which will help map a car’s dynamic surroundings and make complicated split-second decisions.
&#8220;SAIPS has developed algorithmic solutions in image and video processing, deep learning, signal processing and classification. This expertise will help Ford autonomous vehicles learn and adapt to the surroundings of their environment,&#8221; Ford said in a press release.
SAIP who&#8217;s past clients included <a href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=HP" target="_blank">HP</a> and <a href="http://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Trax" target="_blank">Trax</a>, will continue with its own business in addition to helping Ford achieve its pledge.
The acquisition was one of four deals Ford announced with the aim of delivering a &#8220;high-volume, fully autonomous vehicle in commercial operation in 2021 in a ride-hailing or ride-sharing service.&#8221;
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">IoT security hardware startup Dojo-Labs acquired by BullGuard</h3>
UK antivirus maker BullGuard has bought over Israeli IoT security startup Dojo-Labs. Financial details on the acqusition have not been disclosed.
Dojo-Labs founders CEO Yossi Atias and CTO Shmulik Bachar will stay on post acquisition although a branding strategy is not confirmed as of now.
“We are uniting two companies with a common vision for protecting consumers and their data and devices. This means customers will receive the highest level of protection across all of their Internet-connected devices. Most likely, we will have one brand — BullGuard,&#8221; <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2016/08/16/uk-antivirus-firm-bullguard-buys-israeli-iot-security-startup-dojo-labs/?ncid=rss" target="_blank">said</a> a spokeswoman for BullGuard to TechCrunch.
Dojo-Labs which created a pebble-shaped IoT device, monitors network traffic in the home and alerts homeowners of anomalous behaviour by connected devices on the home network. An accompanying app is also available.
