Japanese private equity firm Advantage Partners announced that it has exited its entire shareholding in semiconductor equipment manufacturer Fasford Technology (FFT) to Fuji Corporation, it said in an announcement on August 14.
As a result of the acquisition, FFT will become a subsidiary of Fuji, a global manufacturer of industrial robots. Fuji plans to enhance FFT&#8217;s ability to provide next generation solutions for production lines for electronic components and semiconductor assembly field.
Advantage Partners took over FFT from Hitachi Group in March 2015, and has supported the company in developing an operating platform independent of Hitachi.
Although no financial terms were disclosed in the announcement issued by Advantage Partners, based on a <a href="http://www.fuji.co.jp/e/datas/pdf/news/Semiconductor%20equipment%20manufacturer%20Fasford%20Technology%20Co.,%20Ltd.%20stock%20acquisition.pdf">notice issued by Fuji </a>on August 9, the total acquisition value was ¥21.8 billion ($198.4 million).
Advantage Partners has recently announced the final close of its inaugural <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/japan-advantage-partners-asia-fund-97818/">Asia Fund at $380 million</a>, and is planning to invest the capital into small to mid-cap investments in companies beyond Japan that have an opportunity for Japan-linked value creation.
In June, Advantage Partners <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/japans-pe-firm-advantage-partners-buys-papa-johns-chinese-business-100869/">acquired all the 34</a> Papa John&#8217;s outlets in Beijing and Tianjin through its portfolio company Asia Gourmet Holdings (Shanghai) Co Ltd for an undisclosed sum. It is highly likely that Advantage Partners has made the acquisition through its $380 million Asia Fund.
The fund has already invested in several companies, namely Beijing-based operator of Korean restaurants, Zheng Yi Wei; Malaysia-based consumer packaging manufacturer, Plastic Centre Group, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of eggs and egg-related products; and a Shanghai-based provider of education services. Last year, Advantage Partners&#8217; flagship buyout fund, Advantage Partners V, was closed at $532 million.
