Philippine-based venture capital firm <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Kickstart%20Ventures">Kickstart Ventures</a> has led the $1.6-million seed funding round of HR-tech startup <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Spout%20Solutions">Sprout Solutions</a>, with Wavemaker Partners, Beenext, and a private investor joining in.
In a statement, Sprout Solutions said, it will use the funds to accelerate expansion in the Philippines around its AI products for enterprise-level companies.
In addition to using the seed round for product development, Sprout has already invested some of the funds into a sprawling new office at the Cyber Sigma Building in McKinley Hill.
Sprout said, it not only simplifies HR and payroll processes but also provides artificial intelligence and predictive analytics to human resources through Sprout Insight, one of its two stand-out products.
For instance, Sprout can help detect attendance levels on a rainy day, based on historical attendance, weather data, and information on where employees live.
Launched in 2015 by co-founders Patrick Gentry, CEO, and Alex Agbayani Gentry, CPO, Sprout has served more than 200 clients, including some of the Philippines’ largest companies by headcount.
“The decision to raise venture capital in last 2017 came when the co-founders realised the addressable market for HR-tech in the Philippines was much larger than they first forecast,” according to the company statement.
The co-founders initially believed that only smaller to mid-sized firms would need an HR and payroll solution like Sprout.
“But what we’ve found is that even the biggest companies in the country also need Sprout. The legacy Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) products they typically use from abroad do not cater to the nuances of business in the Philippines. In contrast, we’ve built our products from day one to make it easier for Filipino businesses to do their core HR and payroll,” Patrick Gentry said.
According to Kickstart Ventures President Minette Navarette, Sprout’s potential is why they chose to lead the seed round.
“As enterprises move into the digital age, HR systems should, as well, create a more accurate, responsive, and efficient experience for companies, HR professionals, and employees,” Navarette said.
