Global investment company KKR has named Hidekazu Harada as managing director of its Tokyo private equity team, effective immediately.
Harada was previously at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch as a board member and co-head of investment banking in Japan, KKR said in a statement Wednesday.
His portfolio at BofA-ML including financial sponsors, TMT, mergers and acquisitions, management buyouts and leveraged finance, KKR said. Prior to that, he spent four years at Daiwa Securities SMBC’s Tokyo and London offices where he focused on mergers &amp; acquisitions.
KKR said Japan was one of its key investment markets and since opening an office there in 2006, it has invested or committed more than $2.2 billion of equity into companies there.
KKR Japan CEO and partner, co-head of private equity for KKR Asia-Pacific, Hiro Hirano, said, &#8220;This appointment, along with additional experienced hires to our team, reinforces our long-term commitment to Japan and underscores our view that private equity will continue to be an important strategy in this market.”
“Among other strategies, KKR seeks opportunities to assist Japanese companies in expanding overseas and developing cross-border growth strategies, in addition to helping companies to carve out and support their non-core businesses,” the statement said.
KKR’s private-equity investments in Japan include PHC Holdings (formerly Panasonic Healthcare), Alpha Theta (formerly Pioneer DJ), and Koki Holdings (formerly Hitachi Koki).
