Malaysia-based private equity firm OSK Ventures International Bhd has announced that it has set up a joint venture fund with Japan&#8217;s SBI Holdings Inc with an initial commitment of $20 million.
The fund, named OSK-SBI Dynamic Growth Fund, will see both partners contribute equally. It will focus on investments in private startups in the ASEAN region and have a lifespan of five years.
OSK Ventures said both companies plan to expand the fund&#8217;s investor base in the future.
Established in 2000, Bursa-listed OSK Ventures focuses on growth- to late-stage companies with an operating profit that It claimed that it has nurtured multiple companies to trade sales and initial public offerings.
According to its website, OSK Ventures&#8217; portfolio includes A Job Thing, Gogobli Asia Teknologi, Green Packet Bhd, Jirnexu and more. It is the private equity arm of Malaysian conglomerate group OSK Holdings Bhd. Last May, OSK Ventures and Dymon Asia Ventures had co-led a $1.5-million funding round in Singapore-based 4xLabs.
The firm is headed by Patrick Yee who is the executive director and chief operating officer. He has previously completed stints with Affin Hwang Investment Bank Bhd and Public Investment Bank Bhd.
SBI Group is one of the largest VC/PE investment firms based in Japan and has been expanding its presence in emerging markets.
