Myanmar-based agriculture and fintech enterprise <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Impact+Terra" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Impact Terra</a> has bagged nearly $3 million in grant funding to lead the digitization of smallholder farming, the company announced on March 19.
The grant financing comes from Geodata for Agriculture and Water (<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=G4AW" target="_blank" rel="noopener">G4AW</a>) Facility, a grant programme of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Leap201" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leap201</a>, a Singapore-based venture philanthropy organization that aims to reduce poverty in Indochina.
“We are excited to partner with Impact Terra, as we see immense potential to improve the livelihoods of the 20 million smallholder farmers in Myanmar through access to timely and relevant agronomic advice,” said Michael Lien, founder and board chairman of LEAP201.
Impact Terra’s platform, Golden Paddy, offers personalized advice and services to smallholder farmers, aimed at improving their productivity, market access and financial inclusion.
It also offers other services like data insights about farmers in Myanmar and settling transactions and payments.
The Netherlands Space Office (NSO), through its Geodata for Agriculture and Water (G4AW) Facility, recently confirmed its support for the Smart Agriculture Myanmar (SAM) project. SAM aims to utilize satellite-based insights to improve Golden Paddy’s farmer advice and stimulate microfinance initiatives.
For farmers, Impact Terra provides real-time information such as extreme weather based advice and helps with early pest and disease identification, Good Agricultural Practices and connecting farmers to the value chain and financial institutions.
Erwin Sikma, Founder and CEO of Impact Terra, said the enterprise will further develop its existing services and make those available to millions of farmers in Myanmar and other South-East Asian countries.
Many of Impact Terra’s projects are handled in partnership with organizations including LEAP201, Dutch Embassy Myanmar, Netherlands Space Office, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Rabobank and Brac.
