The New York State Teachers&#8217; Retirement System (NYSTRS) has approved commitments of up to $240 million across two Asia-focused private equity vehicles, according to the minutes of an investment committee meeting held on Wednesday.
The pension fund agreed to commit up to $100 million to DCP Capital Partners, a mid to large cap fund targeting buyout and substantial minority investments in consumer, environmental, TMT, healthcare, industrials, and financial services companies based in Greater China.
DCP Capital was co-founded by former KKR &amp; Co Greater China head David Liu and former senior KKR executive in Asia Julian Wolhardt in 2017. The firm raised about $2.5 billion for its debut USD and yuan funds last week. The dollar fund alone has bagged over $2 billion from investors as the firm claims it was &#8220;significantly&#8221; oversubscribed due to strong demand.
According to a <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/stories/ex-kkr-asia-dcp-131081/">Reuters report</a>, DCP Capital&#8217;s investors include Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC Pte and state investment firm Temasek Holdings, as well as Canadian public pension fund Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec (CDPQ).
In addition to DCP Capital, NYSTRS has approved a commitment of up to A$200 million ($140 million) to Pacific Equity Partners VI. The vehicle is a middle-market buyout fund that will target investments across a variety of sectors in businesses where the nexus of operations is in Australia or New Zealand.
According to the Australian Financial Review, Pacific Equity Partners is seeking to raise more than A$2.6 billion ($1.8 billion) for its sixth buyout fund, slightly bigger than Fund V, which was closed in 2015 at A$2.1 billion ($1.5 billion).
Earlier this January, NYSTRS had also committed up to $175 million to two Asian private equity funds &#8212; $100 million to Korea-based Hahn &amp; Company&#8217;s third vehicle and $75 million to India-based ChrysCapital&#8217;s eighth fund.
