<a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Conductive%20Ventures">Conductive Ventures</a>, a new US venture fund focused on investments in expansion stage companies, has raised $100 million for its debut fund, it announced on Tuesday.
Backed by Japan-listed consumer electronics manufacturer <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Panasonic">Panasonic</a>, which is its sole limited partner, the firm will focus on investments in enterprise software and hardware companies.
Led by former Intel Capital director Carey Lai and former Kleiner Perkins partner Paul Yeh, Conductive Ventures has already backed four companies &#8211; microprocessor company Ambiq Micro, lead generation software maker CSC Generation, metal 3D printing company Desktop Metal and customer experience manager Sprinklr.
According to a Forbes report, the fund will invest about $2-7 million in 12 companies and help portfolio firms access Japan through its relationship with Panasonic.
&#8220;We look for companies that are in the early efficient growth stage of their life-cycle. We seek to invest in companies at the precipice of their infection point,&#8221; Conductive said on its website.
Panasonic&#8217;s investment in Conductive Ventures comes after the Japanese firm announced last year that it was establishing a new company that will invest in US startups, with an initial corpus of $100 million.
Lai spent his venture capital career at both Institutional Venture Partners (IVP) and Intel Capital, where he invested in enterprise software companies including 500Friends (acquired by Merkle), Box (BOX), BrightEdge, Gigya (acquired by SAP), Nexmo (acquired by Vonage), Onefinestay (acquired by AccorHotels), Sprinklr, SweetLabs, Synchronoss (SNCR) and UUCUN (acquired by Baidu).
Yeh spent the early part of his career in product development and operations with a number of hardware and manufacturing companies including Ford, Tesla, Next Autoworks, and Fisker Automotive. Most recently he was a Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield &amp; Byers (KPCB) where he focused on hardware and sustainability investments.
