People: Tiger Global exec joins Jeneration Capital; MTS Health gets Japan Partner

Jason Tan, a former Tiger Global executive has joined Jeneration Capital in Hong Kong while US-based MTS Health Partners has appointed a Japan partner.

Tiger Global’s Jason Tan joins Jeneration Capital

Jason Tan, a former Managing Director at Tiger Global Management, has joined Jeneration Capital in Hong Kong as the Chief Investment Officer.

According to Tan’s LinkedIn profile, he joined Investment firm Jeneration in October last year after leaving Tiger Global after an over three-year stint. Prior to that, he spent many years as the director of China activities for private equity firm TA Associates. He also worked at Summit Partners as Director Asia Pacific in 2011.

In September last year, Jeneration Capital appointed Tony Zhang as partner who joined the team of buy-side professionals focused on direct private investments. Zhang brought with him nearly a decade of investment and finance experience including most recently as head of Asia at Coatue Management LLC – a leading technology focused hedge fund – where he was in charge of investment activity in the region,

Kazuki Kusaka Joins MTS Health Partners as Partner

Healthcare-focused investment bank MTS Health Partners has appointed Kazuki Kusaka as a partner in Japan.

In an announcement last week, US-based MTS said, Kusaka joins the MTS leadership team of eleven partners and will build and lead its practice on the ground in Japan. He has more than three decades of industry experience while spending the latter two focusing on the healthcare space.

He previously led Lazard’s healthcare practice in Japan and has broad relationships across many healthcare sub-sectors including pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device and healthcare services companies.

“We have been eyeing the growing prominence of Japanese pharma and emerging biotech companies on both the global stage as well as intra-Japan for quite some time, and knew we needed to find the right leader to develop our presence,” said Andrew Weisenfeld, managing partner of MTS.

Prior to Lazard, Kusaka was a managing director and the head of Asia Healthcare Group at Lehman Brothers for seven years. He also founded the group in 2000 and provided M&A advisory and equity/debt financing services to healthcare companies in major countries in Asia including Japan, Korea, China and Singapore. In the past, he has worked for UBS in Japan as the head of the Japan Healthcare Group.
