The <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=Philippine+Stock+Exchange" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE)</a> has acquired an additional 23.8 per cent stake in fixed-income bourse <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=PDS+Holdings" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">PDS Holdings Corp</a>, boosting its total stake to 44.78 per cent.
PSE earlier disclosed that it had signed a share purchase agreement with the <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=BAP" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP)</a> to acquire the latter&#8217;s stake in PDS Holdings for $9.4 million or P437.8 million. BAP signed the deal with PSE on behalf of BAP Credit Bureau, certain member banks and other banks.
&#8220;The purchase shall be subject to the approval of government agencies, particularly the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP),&#8221; PSE said in its statement.
PDS Holdings&#8217; parent firm <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=PDS+Group" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">PDS Group</a> is a capital market infrastructure that also owns and operates the Philippine Dealing &amp; Exchange Corp (PDEx), Philippine Depository &amp; Trust Corp (PDTC), Philippine Securities Settlement Corp (PSSC), and PDS Academy for Market Development Corp (PDSA).
PSE said the transaction will facilitate further growth in the local capital markets by introducing efficiencies in the trading and back office systems of both the equities and fixed income markets, among others.
&#8220;It is aimed at creating a better environment for the introduction of more products and services for the various market stakeholders as well as the implementation of improvements in risk management processes,&#8221; PSE noted.
&#8220;As the two companies have highly similar and integrated functions, there should be synergies that could be realized particularly from an infrastructure standpoint, particularly on the technology side. For the market, the single exchange setup helps achieve efficiencies, reduce risks, and facilitate the development of new products,&#8221; it added.
