Tokyo-based private equity firm <a style="color: #333399;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=MBK+Partners" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">MBK Partners</a> is looking to exit its investments in Japanese cafe chain operator <a style="color: #333399;" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/?s=komeda" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Komeda Holdings Co Ltd</a>.
MBK is selling 13.7 million shares of Komeda pegged at $222 million which will be a cleanup trade if the over-allotment option is fully subscribed, the Smartkarma <a style="color: #000080;" href="https://www.smartkarma.com/insights/komeda-placement-good-fy2017-results-while-selldown-by-mbk-is-expected" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a>.
MBK&#8217;s selldown is expected since it sold some shares during the IPO, Smartkarma added. Settlement for the secondary offering is slated on June 28, 2017.
Komeda reportedly had good FY2017 results last April, driven by seasonal products, expansion of menu as well as adding more new stores. The coffee chain manager has 739 Komeda shops, and eight Okagean shops, plus 196.8 million yen in capital as of February 2017.
Komeda cafe is known for its breakfast menu. The company targets to expand overseas and open as many as 1,000 stores by the end of fiscal 2020.
