Indonesia’s NLP-focused AI startup Prosa bags Series A funding from GDP Venture, an Indonesian AI startup focused on Natural Language Processing (NLP), has raised an undisclosed amount of Series A funding from local VC firm GDP Venture.

The fresh funding will be used to strengthen the team and improve its products and data capabilities, the company said in an announcement.

Founded by NLP and speech experts Dr Ayu Purwarianti and Dessi Puji Lestari, and IT entrepreneur Teguh Eko Budiarto, focuses on artificial intelligence for processing Bahasa Indonesia.

Founded last year, the company now employs over 20 data scientists and 16 data annotators for its NLP speech products, data, and services. recently worked with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics to launch an anti-hoax chatbot for the Telegram app to establish the credibility of news, articles, or links shared through the messaging app.

“Indonesia has seen emerging startups with potentials in AI industry and’s technology is one that we actually need to support other industries,” said GDP Venture CEO Martin Hartono.

According to CEO Teguh Eko Budiarto, some of the products the company is looking to further improve with the capital infusion are Chatbot NLP Processing, Voice Biometrics, Conversational Analytics and Meeting Analytics.

The investment from GDP counts as a follow-on funding for the VC, which had backed the startup’s seed funding round last year.

GDP Venture, which is the venture capital arm of Indonesian conglomerate Djarum Group, is one of the pioneers in Indonesia’s VC landscape. Its portfolio companies include IDN Media, Qlue and Halodoc.
