Jobs marketplace company <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/Qareer-Group-Asia/">Qareer Group Asia</a> has announced the close of a $10.5-million funding round led by Indonesian media conglomerate <a href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/Emtek">Emtek Group</a>.
Other investors that joined the round, which was a combination of fresh capital injection and asset participation, include existing investors Kejora Ventures and supported by SoftBank, the company said in an official release.
In its Q3 financial report, Emtek had disclosed a $4-million investment in exchange for a 33.5 per cent stake or 310,472 shares in Qareer Group Asia. However, this portal has learned that the investment for the 33.5 per cent stake also included undisclosed amount of non-cash investments on top of the $4 million cash.
Headquartered in Singapore, Qareer Group is behind two job listing portals, Qerja and Jobs.id. The fresh capital infusion will help it ward off incoming competition in the regional jobs marketplace industry.
Recently, Singapore-based job matching platform GrabJobs said it plans to raise S$5 million ($3.75 million) in a Series A round to fuel expansion to other Southeast Asian countries.
In 2015, Qerja announced an undisclosed series A funding round from the SB ISAT Fund, a collaboration between <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/Softbank">SoftBank</a> and local telco <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/indosat">Indosat</a>, and <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/500-startups">500 Startups</a>. Prior to that, the company, which operates in Indonesia and Malaysia, had raised its seed funding from <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/kejora-ventures">Kejora Ventures.</a>
Emtek, which operates free-to-air television stations in the country, has invested in a number of startups since 2015, including Rumah.com, Rumahdijual.com, Bola.com, Karir.com,<a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/hijup"> Hijup.com</a>, <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/kudo">Kudo</a>, Bobobobo.com, and <a href="http://dealstreetasia.com/tag/bukalapak">Bukalapak.com</a>. In the first half of 2017, Emtek injected Rp 344 billion into “several VC firms”, including a minority investment in ride-hailing app Grab Inc.
