Singapore-headquartered ride-hailing major Grab will officially launch food deliveries through its <a class="" href="https://www.dealstreetasia.com/tag/GrabFood/">GrabFood</a> platform in Hanoi on September 5 after a four-month trial in Ho Chi Minh City.
GrabFood services will initially be piloted in four districts of Hanoi including Hoan Kiem, Dong Da, Cau Giay, Hai Ba Trung, according to an official release.
This is Grab&#8217;s next major step towards becoming a super-application for the first daily life in Vietnam in particular and Southeast Asia in general through an ecosystem of applications including GrabFood, GrabExpress, GrabPay and GrabFinance.
GrabFood was first launched in Jakarta in 2016 and subsequently tested in Bangkok last year. In May this year, it was officially launched in Singapore. The launch comes two months after the Singapore-based ride-hailing firm acquired Uber’s businesses in the region.
In Vietnam, after four months (since May 2018) implemented in Ho Chi Minh City, it has attracted a large number of restaurants registered as partners.
In a statement, Grab said that more than 6 million micro-enterprises across the region have joined its financial services platform already. It aims to reach 100 million micro-enterprises by 2020.
The ride-hailing major is aiming to raise another $1 billion by 2018-end, according to a report by FinanceAsia. This comes shortly after the Southeast Asian ride-hailing major pocketed $2 billion from investors including Toyota and Oppenheimer Funds.
According to the report, Grab president Ming Maa said that Grab is counting on its massive consumer database to further drive up valuations. The six-year-old startup is said to be worth as much as $10 billion.
In July, Grab picked up a minority stake in grocery delivery startup HappyFresh, foraying into grocery delivery as part of its ambition to become a one-stop super app for users in Southeast Asia.
Its grocery delivery service, dubbed GrabFresh, was launched in partnership with HappyFresh and was slated for a beta launch in Jakarta this month, with launches in Thailand and Malaysia expected by year-end.
