US-based Rise Capital, founded by former Tiger Global executive Nazar Yasin, has announced its entry into India, and appointed Anuj Mehta as its India investment head.
Founded in 2013, Rise Capital is looking to make seed to Series B bets on Indian companies with a cheque size ranging from $100,000-10 million from its third fund, Yasin told the Economic Times.
Rise had raised a $100 million maiden fund in 2014.
Rise Capital is known for investing in emerging economies like Latin America, MENA, Southeast Asia, and Africa, and has backed global companies such as Facily, Kitopi, Kueski and Gaia, and closed two deals in India recently. It invested in TradeX, an investment app, and SaveIn, a neo-bank, as part of their larger seed-stage rounds raised in the last month.
&#8220;Tech startups in India will create well over $1 trillion in market capitalisation by 2030,” Rise Capital said in a statement.
&#8220;The startup ecosystem in India is already amazing and has experienced rapid growth, but we believe that in many ways things there are just getting started,&#8221; Yasin said a LinkedIn post.
India has become the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world and is also home to 100 unicorns.
