Riyadh-based cloud communication platform Unifonic has raised a Series A funding round of $21 million led by Saudi Technology Ventures (STV), according to reports by local media.
The round was joined by Riyad TAQNIA Fund, Endeavor Catalyst, ELM, and Raed Ventures.
Started in 2006, Unifonic is a cloud communications platform which allows software developers build SMS, voice &amp; messaging applications, as well as other communication functions, using its web service API.
According to its website, Unifonic has gained 5 billion users in 200 countries, working with over 720 operators around the world. The company boasts over 5,000 business clients which includes household names such as Al Jazeera, HSBC, Uber, FedEx and Carrefour.
Unifonic will use the fresh capital to accelerate its growth across the Middle Eastern region and globally, as well as to continue building different communications solutions.
In STV, Unifonic now has the backing of the largest VC fund in the Middle East, anchored by the Saudi Telecom Company. It also secures the support of emerging market specialist fund Endeavor Catalyst, which is backed by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, among others.
Unifonic is Endeavor’s latest Middle Eastern portfolio, having previously invested in a number of startups in the region including Fetchr, Anghami, Mumzworld and Vezeeta.
New York-based Endeavor Catalyst is also an active investor in the Asian market. It recently participated in the funding round of Japanese electric vehicle developer WHILL and Indonesian P2P firm Investree.
